The pelvic floor is the band of muscles that make up the hammock that supports all your abdominal organs. If you think of the trunk as a soda can, the diaphragm is the top of the can, and the pelvic floor is the base. The pelvic floor needs to be flexible to allow things to pass through it (think #1 and #2), but also be strong enough to support everything in the can (think intestines, bladder, etc.).
